FAQ Attestation of Power of Attorney/Documents

1) What is the fee for attestation of Power of Attorney?

Fee for one continuous documents of 3 pages is C$ 20.00 any exceeding page or document is C$ 20.00 e.g. if one document/power of attorney starts on page 1 and ends on page 3 the fee is C$ 20.00 and if it ends on page 4 than C$ 40.00. If pages are more than 3 add C$ 20.00 per page.

2) What information does the Power of Attorney have to contain?
We have nothing to do with the written contents of the Power of Attorney and are only attesting the signatures.

3) Can the Power of Attorney be written on plain paper?
For attestation purposes we can attest Power of Attorneys written on plain paper.

4) Does selling property in Pakistan require a Power of Attorney?
If the person who owns the property is not in Pakistan and is appointing someone else to act on his/her behalf he/she will need a Power of Attorney.

5) Does my Power of Attorney require a witness?
No, a witness is not required for us to attest the Power of Attorney. The Power of Attorney however, must be notarized by a notary public or lawyer if you are not signing it at the Consulate.

6) How long is my Power Of Attorney valid for?
Power of Attorneys are only valid for 3 months from the date of execution at our office (this would be the date stamped on the Power Of Attorney).

If this is not presented in Pakistan before the expiry date the Power Of Attorney will have to be re-validated or you may choose to apply for a fresh Power Of Attorney.

7) Can you send my Power Of Attorney directly to Pakistan from your office in Vancouver?
Yes we can as long as you cover all the mailing charges and the return envelope must be self-addressed to the address in Pakistan you wish to have it mailed to.

FAQ Endorsement of Children

1)What is Endorsement?
Endorsement is when you add your child to the Manual Pakistan Passport of the mother or father. This allows your child to travel with whichever parent’s Passport he/she is endorsed on.

2)I want to Endorse my child on my Passport, what is the procedure?
Your child must be registered with any Pakistani Consulate by applying for Registration of Child and under the age of 12. Endorsements will only be done on the Passport if the child will not exceed 12 years of age when the Passport expires.

If your child is not registered and is within 6 months from date of birth you may apply for Registration of Child and Endorsement at the same time.

3)If my child is Endorsed on the mother’s Passport can my child travel with just the father?
No your child may only travel with whichever parent’s Passport he/she is Endorsed on.

FAQ General

1) Do I need to make separate money order for each application?

You can make one money order for all the applications payable to “Consulate General of Pakistan”. Please note applicants of NICOP have to make money order payable to “NADRA Pakistan”

2) What form of payment do you accept?
The fee is accepted only in form of bank draft, money order or certified cheque payable to "Consulate General of Pakistan". Please note applicants of NICOP have to make money order payable to “NADRA Pakistan”. We do not accept cash, credit or debit card payments

3) Which courier service do you accept?
We do not have any favorite courier service. You can use any courier service of your choice but the return envelope should be prepaid and self addressed.

4) Can I send all applications in one courier package?
Yes you can send all applications in one courier package.

4) Can I submit more than one application to you by mail in the same envelope?  
Yes you can.

5) Can I send one prepaid self addressed courier envelope for all applications?
Yes you can send one prepaid self addressed courier envelope for all your documents/applications.

6) I want to apply and submit an application, where can I find the application form, requirements and fees?

7) I have been trying for days to contact your office. How can I get a hold of someone to ask questions related to Passport, Visa, NICOP, Attestation, Child Registration or Endorsement?

*Please note we only have one customer service representative; at times there are large call volumes that result in longer wait times.

8) How come I can’t track my application on your website?
If your application has arrived recently it can take 1-2 business days to be added to our system for online viewing.


If it has been more than 1-2 business days from the arrival of your application you may try tracking your application again with the following information:
1)Your application is entered based on the information provided on your application form.
2)Any misspelled first, middle or last names as well as incorrect date of birth entered on the form may be entered into our system as so. Also if your writing is not neat your name may be entered incorrectly.
3)If you have only written your first and last name on the application form , your information will be entered with your first and last name along with your date of birth.
If you have only written your first name, middle name and last name on the application form; your information will be entered with your first name, middle name and last name along with your date of birth.

Some applications dropped off in person are not entered into our system for online viewing.

9) How long does it take to process my application if I send it by mail?
The day that your application is received by mail to our office we will begin to process it, for example if you have applied for Pakistan Passport with the ordinary fee it will take us 7 business days to process it from the date of arrival. On the 7th business day we will send out your documents. It will then take however long (depending on what courier company you are using , what level of service you have paid for, and what area you live in) to get back to you by mail.


If you need to know how long it takes by mail for delivery; you may ask your courier company for this information.

10) My application has been processed and my documents have been mailed out already, how long will it take to reach me by mail?
It depends on which courier you have used to ship your documents (for example Canada Post, FedEx, Purolator, DHL, UPS ect.), what level of courier service you have paid for and if you live in a rural area or in a city/town.

Please check with your courier for such information.

11) I want to send my application to your office, where should I send it?
Applications for Passport, Visa, Child Registration, NICOP, Attestation, Driver’s License, Police Clearance and POC may be sent to:

12) I want to apply in person to your office, what information should I be aware of?
Applications for Passport, Visa, Child Registration, NICOP, Attestation, Driver’s License, Police Clearance and POC may be dropped off at our office:

We accept applications Monday-Thursday between 10am-1pm and Fridays between 9:30am-12pm.

The applicant does not necessarily have to be there, if you wish you may have someone drop off your application during those hours. Once the application is dropped off you will get a receipt which will have a pickup date. Only persons holding the original receipt can pickup those documents.

Our hours for document pickup are Monday-Thursday between 3pm-4pm.

13) I want to know if my application (Passport, Visa, Child Registration, NICOP, Attestation, Driver’s License, Police Clearance, POC ect.) has been delivered to your office. What information should I provide?

Please provide the one of the following information:
1)Tracking number (for applications that were sent through registered mail)
2)Sender’s Address (for applications that were sent through regular mail)
*Please note our system can only provide information that is shown on the front of your shipping parcel.

14) I am applying for Passport or Visa for my child and myself, do I have to fill out a separate form for my child?
Yes, if you are applying for a separate Passport or Visa for your child you will have to fill out a separate form for your child. Therefore you should end up with 2 application forms filled out, one for yourself and one for your child.

15) I want to travel to Pakistan with my infant/child. What are my options?
Your infant/child can get entry into Pakistan on one of the following documents:

1) Endorsement on Manual Pakistan Passport of Mother or Father
*Please note you must also apply for Registration of Child at the same time if your child has not been registered. Registration of child can only be done within 6 months from date of birth.
Children will only be endorsed on the Manual Pakistan Passport of Mother or Father if he/she will not exceed 12 years of age when the Passport of Mother or Father expires.
2) Pakistan Passport
*Please note you must also apply for Registration of Child at the same time if your child has not been registered. Registration of child can only be done within 6 months from date of birth.
3) NICOP
*All persons traveling to Pakistan on a valid NICOP must have a Canadian Passport valid at least 6 months from the date of travel. Registration of child is not required to apply for NICOP for infants/children.

16) When is your Consulate team coming to Calgary or Edmonton?
We visit twice a year to Calgary and Edmonton to provide Consular services. If we do have any confirmed schedules they will be posted on the home page of our website and you may check back every now and then to see if we have any postings.

17)What is the procedure to vote in Pakistan?
We have not been officially informed by the government of Pakistan of any procedure for voting by overseas Pakistanis. If and when we receive any guidelines, they will be widely publicized and communicated to all sections of the Pakistani community.
We will do everything possible to publicize this information including informing local media, sending out an email to our Pakistani contacts, informing the Pakistani communities and posting information on our website.

18) My documents have been shipped from your office and when tracking on Canada Post is showing delivered but I have not received it. What should I do?

Please make sure to include the following information:
1) Tracking number of your shipment
2) Address it is to be shipped to
3) Information of any original documents in the parcel
4) Your contact information: phone number and email address

Once a file is created you may check with Canada Post for any further updates on your case.

Only items shipped by Canada Post which are lost or not delivered will be pursued by our office. Canada Post will only open a file for the sender of the parcel. Any shipping issues with any other courier company must be pursued by the applicant.

19) I have submitted an application and I want to cancel my application, can I get a refund for my fees?
No, all application fees are non-refundable.

20) I will be mailing my application to your office, if I have not submitted all the correct requirements will my application be sent back?
Incomplete applications may be sent back depending on the volume of applications currently in our office.

FAQ NICOP

1) What is the fee for NICOP?

2) Do I have to pay separate home delivery charges for each member of my family?
Yes, the home delivery charge of C$ 12.00 is per person/per application.

3) To whom the money order for NICOP is payable?
The fee for NICOP is payable to NADRA Pakistan.

4) Can I write both address of Canada in my application for NICOP?
No you are required to give at least an address of Pakistan.

5) Do I need to print thumb impression of my minor child in NICOP application?
Yes print the left hand thumbs of the child in the space provided and write his name in the signature box.

6) Who can sign the Muslim declaration in case of minor children?
The Father or mother of the child can sign Muslim declaration on behalf of child.

7) What is * mark field on NICOP application?
The applicable * mark fields are mandatory, if you do not fill in these fields your application cannot be processed

8)My child has National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistani (NICOP), do I need to apply for his registration?
No. You do not need to apply for his registration.

FAQ Passport

1) I want to apply for Passport what are the requirements?

2) When I apply for Passport renewal, will my previous Passport be returned to me?
Yes it will.

3) I’m submitting 3 Passport applications can I combine the fees onto one Certified Cheque, Money Order or Bank Draft?

Yes you may. Since the fees are all payable to “Consulate General of Pakistan” you may combine the total fees for all Passport applications onto one Certified Cheque or Money Order.
*Please note if you are applying for NICOP at the same time a separate Certified Cheque , Money Order or Bank Draft must be made as NICOP applications are payable to “NADRA Pakistan”.

4) I do not have Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) or National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistani (NICOP), can I apply for Passport.
You can apply for manual Pakistan Passport along with other required documents, a restricted validity passport for one year will be issued with the conditions that you will apply for NICOP. Once NICOP is issued the same passport will be extend for normal validity of five yours from the date of issue without any fee.

5) I am applying for Passport for my child and myself, do I have to fill out a separate form for my child?
Yes you do. If you are applying for a separate Passport for your child you will have to fill out a separate form for your child. Therefore you should end up with 2 application forms filled out, one for yourself and one for your child.

6) Do you issue Machine Readable Passports (MRP)?
The Consulate General Vancouver at present only issue manual passports. Applicants desirous of MRPs may kindly contact Consulate General of Pakistan at Toronto.

7) If I need to get a Machine Read-able Passport how can I obtain one?
If you need a Machine Read-able Passport you may get one from the Toronto Consulate by applying in person. The Toronto Consulate is the only Consulate in Canada that is currently issuing the Machine Read-able Passport.

8) I have a valid visa on my Passport, when I apply for renewal will you cancel the Passport? Also if you cancel it can I still use the visa?
Will the visa be cancelled?
If you have a valid visa on your Passport we will cancel that Passport but will mention on the new Passport that you have a valid visa. Please note the cancellation of the expired passport does not automatically cancel a valid visa.


You should be able to use the visa and carry both the Passports at the same time; however it is recommended that you check with the concerned Consulate/Embassy for most up to date information.

We will not cancel your visa.

9) I have only 6 months validity left on my Passport; can I still use this Passport to travel?
Yes you may use this Passport to travel as long as your Passport is valid for the complete duration of travel.

10) My passport is still valid for one year. Can I apply for renewal of Passport?
You can apply for renewal of Passport when there are less than seven months remaining in its expiry.

11) I heard that some Countries require Machine Read-able Passports, what Countries can I travel to with my Manual Passport?
We do not have the entry requirements for other Countries, you may check with the concerned Consulate/Embassy for such information.

12) Can my child still travel if his/her appearance is changed on his/her Passport?
Children may still travel on his/her Pakistan Passport even if the Passport was issued when they were 6 months old and they are now 3 years. As long as the Passport is valid it is not an issue.

13) I have a Manual Passport that is still valid and need a Machine Read-able Passport what can I do?
Applicants may convert from Manual to Machine Read-able Passport even if the Manual Passport is still valid for 2 years, however you will have to pay the fees for Machine Read-able Passport.


You cannot convert from Machine Read-able Passport to Manual Passport if your Machine Read-able Passport is not expiring within 7 months.

The previous Passport will have to be cancelled, if applicant has valid visas or immigration stamps on the previous Passport we will stamp on the new Passport that there was visa/immigration documents on previous Passport.

If you need to use the visas or immigration stamps you may carry both expired and valid Passports at the same time.

14) I want to apply for Passport and Registration of Child at the same time; can I mail everything in one envelope to your office?
Yes you can.

FAQ Police Clearance

1) How long it will take for my Police Record check from Pakistan?
Since the Police Clearance Certificate is issued after clearance from Pakistan, it may take up to 16-20 weeks.

2) Why my Police check is taking so long?
If you have not provided the correct/complete living address of Pakistan then your Police check may return un-verified or take longer than usual.

FAQ Registration of Child

1) What is the reason for registration of children?
To provide immediate services in absence of Child Registration Certificate (CRC) or National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) like issuance of Pakistan Passport or endorsement on parent passport.

2) What is Child Registration Certificate (CRC)? Is it the same as the Registration of Child?
No. The CRC is issued by National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and this is a permanent document and Child Registration is a temporary document to provide services of immediate nature.

3) What is the age limit for registration of child?
Children born to Pakistani national parents can be registered with the Consulate General within six months from the date of birth.

4) My husband/wife is a foreign national can I apply for child registration?
If one of the parents is Pakistani national, he or she can apply for child registration.

FAQ Visa

1) I want to apply for a Visa what are the requirements?

2) How long will it take including courier delivery to get my Visa back?
We do not include the courier delivery in our processing times. For example if you apply for tourist, visit or family Visa on Canadian Passport it will take us usually 3 business days to process upon receiving your documents. Please note that some visa applications might take longer to be processed. On the 3rd business day we will send out your documents.

You may check with your courier service to see how long it takes to ship from our office to your home, and opt for a service that is best suited to your needs.

3) I’m submitting 3 Visa applications can I combine the fees onto one Certified Cheque , Money Order or Bank Draft?
Yes you may. Since the fees are all payable to “Consulate General of Pakistan” you may combine the total fees for all Visa applications onto one Certified Cheque or Money Order.

*Please note if you are applying for NICOP at the same time a separate Certified Cheque , Money Order or Bank Draft must be made as NICOP applications are payable to “NADRA Pakistan”.

4) What is the duration of stay on Tourist/Visit Visa?
Duration of stay is determined on case to case basis after examining the application and attached documents.

5) I need an urgent visa; if I send it to you will I get it back in time?
If you need an urgent visa you may send us your application with a letter explaining your situation and if you have booked your flights you should include the dates you are travelling in that letter(copy of flight details may also be attached). That will help our office determine the urgency of your situation so we can have your documents back in time.
*Please note not every urgent situation is considered and it depends on the emergency.
It is recommended that you use a faster courier service like Purolator, DHL, UPS DHL or Fedex if you have an emergency and choose the fastest delivery service possible for the area in which you reside.

6) I want to apply for a Visa; will I be guaranteed a Visa?
Visa issuance is decided by the issuing authority, you may apply and it will be up to our office if we will issue you a visa or not. It is recommended that you do not book your flights prior to getting your visa issued.

7) Can the validity of my visa be extended?
Once a visa is issued we cannot extend the visa. If you need a longer stay period in Pakistan you, may apply for a new visa before you go and we will cancel the current visa or you may extend the visa in Pakistan 15 days prior to the expiry. Please note extension of visa in Pakistan is not guaranteed and is up to the concerned office.

Any office of Directorate General of Immigrations and Passports can extend your visa(http://www.dgip.gov.pk/Files/Home.html), there is an office in every city in Pakistan.

The single/multiple visa is extend-able only once in Pakistan 15 days prior to the expiry; if your visa has been extended once in Pakistan you will have to exit due to the expiry of the second visa.

8) My passport is valid for less than six months. Can I apply for Pakistan Visa?
Your passport must be valid for more than six months at the time you apply for Visa. You are required to renew your passport and then apply for Pakistan Visa.

9) What is the processing time for processing of visa for expatriate Pakistanis?
The normal visa processing time is three business days, however this may vary from case to case basis after examining the application and attached documents. Please note that Visa on Indian passport will only be issued after clearance from Pakistan.
